There's nothing like a random act of kindness to boost your appetite—and the Chula Vista Stake Cultural Group is a living example!

Chula Vista groupOn Wednesday, August 22, the group fulfilled its R.A.K. (random act of kindness, an idea adopted from Salt Lake's Genesis Group) at the San Diego Neighborhood House Food Bank. The group donned its powder blue shirts and packed boxes of food for senior citizens throughout San Diego County. The group was able to pack more than 300 boxes, and had a great time doing it! The participants ranged in age from from a two-year-old to group President Douglas Boyd—who good-naturedly calls himself "ancient."

Chula Vista girlHaving worked up a hearty appetite, the group then had its first Annual CVSCG Picnic. Not only was the "QUE" tasty, but group leaders showed the Church video "Pioneers of Africa," which was well-received by the entire group. To add to the video, the group heard a moving presentation from two former missionaries who served in Nigeria just after that area was opened to missionaries following the 1978 priesthood revelation. Those missionaries are the former bishop of the Chula Vista 1st ward, Karl Logan, and his wife, Blanche. They were able to answer questions and give great insight into Church history during that period.

In other news, the Chula Vista Stake Cultural Group has called and set apart Linda Santiago as an executive Secretary/communications leader. Welcome, Linda!
