|Hale Centre Theatre Seeks Minority Actors|
|Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley City is seeking actors and actresses from minority groups to audition for its production of Once on This Island.
A delicious, Caribbean legend, Once on This Island is an extraordinary treat that sways with rich, tropical color and music. Ti Moune, plucked from a tall tree after a storm, is sheltered by the island gods . . . but will an inbred class system alter her fate? A rare legend filled with unbounded joy, intrigue, and simple wisdom, its rhythmic music was written by Ahrens and Flaherty, authors of the Broadway blockbuster, Ragtime.
The play will run October 10 through November 24 at Hale Centre Theatre, 3333 South Decker Lake Lane, West Valley City. To schedule an audition, call 984-9000. For questions about the auditions, call Andrew Barrus at 859-2424.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 11. Auditions are by appointment only, and those interested in auditioning need to call the theatre beginning August 6 to schedule an audition time, and should come prepared to sing 16 bars of an upbeat Broadway-style song; an accompanist will be provided. (Taped music and minus tracks will not be allowed.) Dance auditions will be held at call-backs.
All roles are open and will be double-cast. The director is looking for passionate actors who are not Caucasian and who are or can look like they are of African/Carribean descent. These are needed to play character roles—the director needs men ages 18-55, women ages 18-55, and one female child, age 8-15. All auditioners need to come prepared with 16 bars of a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. Please, no taped music or minus tracks. The directors have asked each auditioner to bring a current photo and updated resume. Call backs will be by invitation only. All cast members are paid.
